Despite its popularity on the show, Casa Bonita has been going through hard times because of the pandemic, but “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are hoping to make things a little easier. On Friday, Stone and Parker told Colorado governor Jared Polis that they have tentatively agreed to purchase Casa Bonita, which had entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As a story of Black rebellion against corrupt and monstrous law enforcement, “The 24th” arrives at a critical moment as America stares down the maw of its inherently racist past and tries to figure out where to go from here. The largely forgotten episode in question is the Camp Logan mutiny that took place in Houston, where Black soldiers eager to serve their country stood up to a vile police force, and staged a coup that resulted in a staggering murder trial which, tragically and inevitably, did not land in favor of the mutineers....

But what this sweet, fleet-footed little trifle does capture is how to start a whole new you after you and me is no more. This certainly makes for an overly idealistic experience, but “Broken Hearts Gallery” is a far-cry from the algorithm-driven uncanny valleys of romantic human behavior as seen on Netflix’s versions of the same kind of film, and it features a totally delightful turn from Geraldine Viswanathan as the central brokenhearted who hatches an enviably creative way to move on....

Interested parties will be pleased to know that the Funimation’s series adaptation is far more than a soulless tie-in. “The World Ends with You The Animation” is shaping up to be an affectionate and faithful retelling of the original game that could also appeal to those unfamiliar with the original Nintendo DS title. Like the game its based on, Funimation’s “The World Ends with You” centers on Neku Sakuraba, a teenage loner who is somehow transported to a strange version of Shibuya, Japan, one of the country’s most well-known cultural and commercial centers....

The Blumhouse-produced horror film “They/Them” debuts Friday, August 5 on Peacock and centers on conversion camp Whistler, run by charismatic camp director Owen Whistler played by Kevin Bacon, who also executive produces the film. Calling this season a docuseries is a stretch, as the five episodes feel like a hodgepodge of ideas in search of a story to tell.
