The 2020 installment of the event kicked off last week with three days of PBS panels and the press tour is continuing this week with shows from event mainstays such as Lifetime, AMC Networks, and National Geographic to the traditionally TCA-averse Netflix. The industry has changed significantly since the January Winter Press Tour and WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal are expected to spend their time promoting shows on their new HBO Max and Peacock streamers, respectively....

Forget Valentine’s Day, this February is all about the ones that got away. Hong Khaou’s “Monsoon” is one of the loveliest films that snuck out onto virtual screens last year, but its arrival on the world’s largest streaming platform will should allow it to make a much stronger impact. Ditto Sarah Gavron’s widely adored coming-of-age story “Rocks,” which made some noise over in the U.K. but never got the same chance on this side of the Atlantic....

Although the total gross so far is still only a small part of the weekend box office (about $4 million total among all specialized films), I dates are mostly limited or platform. Three of these are already in the 100-300 theater range, with all showing some strength and promise for more. “Aftersun” (A24), with the year’s best Metacritic score of 96 (“Banshees” has an outstanding 90), also opened in four theaters in the same two cities....

“The Batman” opens in theaters on March 4, 2022, followed by streaming play on HBO Max starting April 19, as WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar recently confirmed to Vox (via IGN). “Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere. ‘The Batman’ is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max,” Kilar said. “That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016....

The real-life court case was at the center of Jesse Barron’s 2017 Esquire article of the same name, and was captured in the 2019 HBO documentary “I Love You, Now Die.” The Massachusetts-set Hulu saga revisits Carter’s alleged abusive behavior, encouragement, and persuasion that was thought to have led to 18-year-old Roy’s suicide....

The 10th season of “The Great British Baking Show” centers on 12 new contestants and more than an oven’s full of new challenges, including a special nod to U.S. viewers. The Netflix series returns September 16, with new episodes released every Friday. Per an official press statement, Collection 10 features a “new batch of contestants who bring their best to the big white tent, whipping up cakes, biscuits, breads, and more....

In a new interview with Extra, Tim Allen broke his silence on “Lightyear,” the new Pixar film that sees Chris Evans (sort of) taking over as the iconic space ranger that Allen voiced in four “Toy Story” movies. Allen, who will next be seen in “The Santa Clause” on Disney+, made it clear that “Lightyear” is entirely separate from “Toy Story.” “The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character],” Allen said....

The Oscar-nominated “Far From Heaven” and “Carol” filmmaker said he completed all the interviews for the film, which were shot by his trusted cinematographer Ed Lachman, in 2018 before heading into shooting “Dark Waters.” His editors on the film are Affonso Gonçalves, who has cut many of Haynes’ films, and Adam Kurnitz. “It’s such an archive-based film that when I got to turn my attentions to it fully, it was right at the end of last year and the beginning of this year,” he said....
