Since the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced February 8, the Oscar race has evolved considerably. Back then it seemed like Netflix’s “The Power of the Dog” was the overwhelming frontrunner. But in the time since, “CODA” has surged dramatically, following rival streamer Apple TV+ going old school and screening the film frequently and judiciously for Academy voting members. IndieWire’s Editor-at-Large and awards expert Anne Thompson released her full list of predictions for the Oscar winners on Thursday, and she believes “CODA” will win best picture, though the other most likely choice still is “The Power of the Dog....

As one of the first openly gay politicians in the country to be elected to public office, Harvey Milk was a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community. Born on May 22, 1930, the native New Yorker rose to become an outspoken human rights activist, and an impassioned champion of LGBTQ rights. Milk was assassinated in 1978, just one year after being elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. More than 40 years after his death, Milk continues to be celebrated as an inspirational and courageous leader in the fight for equal rights....

Co-created and executive-produced by Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) and Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”), “A League of Their Own” debuted at Tribeca 2022 on June 13. The TV reimagining of Penny Marshall’s beloved 1992 film of the same name was a “labor of love that has taken most of our adult lives,” Jacobson joked while introducing the pilot episode, which premieres on Prime Video August 12. “We had a chance to talk to Penny before she passed away,” Graham explained....

ABC’s fall 2021 schedule will be full of long-running hits: “Grey’s Anatomy” is coming back for an 18th season, while “Dancing with the Stars” will return with its 30th season in the fall. The screenings will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers, moderated by CNN’s chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward. “Navalny” centers on the untold story of Russian dissident and presidential candidate Alexey Navalny, who was the target of a 2020 assassination attempt, allegedly ordered by President Vladimir Putin....
