Voiced by Jessica Walter, whose March 24 death broke the internet’s collective heart, questions began swirling immediately, wondering how the series would handle the loss of the beloved performer. Would another actress step into the role? Would Malory meet an untimely end? Those questions were finally answered this week with the release of the Season 12 finale, “Mission: Difficult.” In the episode itself, Malory is largely absent, as Sterling Archer battled his kidnappers with a little help from his colleagues....

What Cameron had in mind for “The Way of Water” required even greater innovative tech from Wētā and his own Lightstorm studio. The director wanted the look of a NatGeo doc for his sci-fi sequel, which would expand the world of Pandora to include the Metkayina reef clan and their magnificent underwater culture. For this, Cameron and Letteri partnered on their most ambitious undertaking to date. While the director spearheaded the design of a 180-pound 3D Sony Venice camera to shoot first-time underwater performance capture, the VFX team at Wētā expanded its workflow solutions to ingest the massive amount of assets to be animated back in New Zealand....

So starts the trailer for Season 2 of HBO’s “Avenue 5,” where food is running low and passengers on a luxury space craft will have to wait eight years before returning to Earth. Josh Gad reprises his role of billionaire Herman Judd, who owns the spaceship captained by Ryan (Laurie) as customer relations executive Matt (Zach Woods) tries to thwart the growing panic onboard. The second season premieres October 10 on HBO....

Based on the 2012 Flemish TV series “Clan,” “Bad Sisters” stars Horgan as Eva Garvey, the eldest of five sisters, who ends up in the middle of a life insurance investigation when her brother-in-law John Paul (Claes Bang) dies under uncertain circumstances. As overzealous insurance agent Thomas (Brian Gleeson) tries to prove Eva and her sisters’ involvement in the death, the show flips from the weeks following his funeral to the weeks leading up to his death, when Eva plotted to murder John Paul with Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson) in revenge for his abusive treatment of their sister Grace (Anne Marie-Duff)....

Hall said he last spoke on the phone with Hughes, who died in 2009, in 1987, when they bandied around ideas for a possible new installment that would find the characters all grown up and well into adulthood. Hall starred in “The Breakfast Club” opposite Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Nelson. “At that time, he did mention the potential of doing a sequel to ‘The Breakfast Club,’” remembered Hall....

That pressure of being the first isn’t one Mitte necessarily feels, because he chooses to channel it away from being a disabled performer, to a performer in general. “There’s always pressure, be it great or a bit small,” he said. “The more pressure you put on me the better. The six-episode series stars Angela Bundalovic as Miu, an enigmatic young woman who has devoted her life to serving a shadowy criminal organization. Returning to her hometown of Copenhagen, Miu goes on a surreal, supernatural odyssey through the seedy underbelly of the city, in an attempt to track down and defeat her archenemy Rakel (Lola Corfixen). Based on the trailer, Miu’s journey carries all the hallmarks of Winding Refn’s filmmaking, with neon lighting, a synthwave soundtrack, and tons of bloodshed....

“Cryptozoo,” the dazzling animated feature from cartoonist Dash Shaw, takes place in the past and feels like it hails from another dimension. At the same time, in its hectic blend of a colorful, imaginative universe and evil forces stacked against it, the movie has a unique connection to the modern era. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the opening minutes, when a pair of ‘60s-era hippies (voiced by Louisa Krause and Michael Cera) wander the woods, and one shares a dreams of storming the Capitol to reboot society....

Per its official synopsis, the 11-minute short “tells the story of a severely depressed man reaching out for an emergency therapy session. But he’s not the only one who needs help.” Added Woods, “I wanted to make a movie about people who are funny and sad and trying their best. Which, in my limited experience, is most people.” In its first trailer, “David” captures an uneasy amusement, and while bolstered by a generous dash of humor (there’s nothing quite like watching a barely-holding-it-together Ferrell in the moments just before he cracks), also seems to be allowing both Ferrell and Harper to tap into some character-based weirdness....

But in a new interview with Den of Geek, “Deadpool 3” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that progress is being made on the threequel, and the duo expressed their excitement about incorporating the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s an absolute thrill to have the band back together, to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, new villains, that kind of thing,” Reese said....

But there is much more to the story than just Brody himself. “Dear Mr. Brody,” the new documentary from director Keith Maitland, explores the events in a new light. The team behind the film unearthed over 12,000 unopened letters that were written to Brody asking for money....

“Don’t Look Up” stars DiCaprio and Lawrence as Dr. Randall Mindy and Dr. Kate Dibiasky, two low-level astronomers forced to travel around the U.S. to warn the population that a giant meteor is heading straight towards the planet. Pre-released clips from the film show the astronomers trying and failing to communicate their message to the President of the United States, a MAGA-type figure played by Meryl Streep, and to two sunny-minded morning television hosts played by Blanchett and Perry....

“Dreaming Walls: Inside the Chelsea Hotel” is less about where the hotel has been and more about where it’s headed. Directors Maya Duverdier and Amélie van Elmbt head into the Chelsea with an eye toward capturing the ghosts of the hotel’s past, but there are still plenty of living relics moving past them. Wordless passages allow the camera to take in the bare walls, broken ladders, and the other remnants of a location that is being slowly picked away at....

Those lights barely brighten these long, cold nights. Lost loved ones aren’t around to celebrate, and remembering as much can make their absence heavier. All that superficial cheer — or even the genuine kind — spurs pain in anyone struggling with depression or general hardship....

Jakob Fabian (Schilling, star of “A Coffee in Berlin”) is a 32-year-old war veteran back in the city and rattled by PTSD, which is somewhat keeping his literary aspirations at bay as he works by day as an ad man for a cigarette company. Everything is unstable, so Fabian frequents the debauched cabarets lining Berlin’s underbelly at night with his wealthy and debauched friend Labude (Albrecht Schuch). But Jakob’s pessimistic attitude finds a challenge in the beautiful and confident Cornelia (Saskia Rosendahl, who starred with Schilling in “Never Look Away”), with whom he falls in love....

Letterier is set to take over the Universal film starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Nathalie Emmanuel, plus Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Cardi B. Director Lin left the film one week into production, issuing a social media announcement to explain the “difficult decision” to step down as director. He will still be on board as a producer, though. “Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases,” Lin said....

Such is the lesson of Lena Khan’s good-hearted “Flora & Ulysses,” a tonally faithful adaptation of Kate DiCamillo’s novel of the same name. Screenwriter Brad Copeland has altered some of the book’s dramas, though the overall look and feel of the story remains: Gussied up with the antics of an animated superhero squirrel, it’s really about facing deeply human challenges head on. It’s a strong fit for Disney+ and its fledgling original film slate, which traffics in younger-skewing offerings with important lessons for the little ones....

“Mank,” David Fincher’s Netflix biopic of screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, is considered a leading Oscar contender but debuted to very little initial response. Available on Friday, it showed up at #10 Saturday (the first day it could chart), and has not reappeared since. The black-and-white film starring Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried didn’t gain the attention of other high-profile originals like “Da 5 Bloods,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and “Hillbilly Elegy,” all of which debuted at first or second....

“Goodnight Mommy” largely succeeds in its quest to avoid that fate. Matt Sobel’s reimagining of Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s 2014 Austrian film of the same name never tries to reinvent the wheel, but while it lacks the potency of the original film, it manages to keep horror lovers entertained without ever embarrassing itself. Lukas and Elias (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) can’t catch a break. The film begins with their divorced dad dropping them off at their mother’s country estate, though he stays in the car to avoid confronting her....
