The “Pachinko” director will helm an upcoming limited series about the murder of Vincent Chin and the civil rights movement following his 1982 death. Christopher Radcliff (“A Time for Mercy,” “The Strange Ones”) will pen the yet-to-be-titled series, with Oscar winner Chloé Zhao serving as an executive producer through Participant. Deadline first reported the news. The series will focus on the death of Chinese-American engineer Chin, who was assaulted at a bar by two white autoworkers who assumed Chin was of Japanese descent and blamed him for the rise of the automotive industry in Japan and lack of American jobs....

David Cronenberg’s latest dystopian body horror drama centers on two surgical performance artists, played by Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux, who publicly showcase the metamorphosis of human organs in avant-garde installations. Stewart portrays a National Organ Registry investigator who becomes fascinated with their performances and believes the artistic innovation will lead to the next phase of human evolution. “Crimes of the Future” premiered at Cannes and will debut in theaters June 3....

THR first reported that Oscar winner Scorsese will team up again with Academy Award winner DiCaprio for a seventh feature collaboration. Based on David Grann’s non-fiction book “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder,” the film is centered on a shipwreck in 1742. The book will be published next year. Grann also penned “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which Scorsese also adapted for an Apple Original film starring DiCaprio, slated for a 2023 release....

“The Marksman” knocked “Wonder Woman 1984” from the top spot; the DC title spent three weeks there while also showing on HBO Max. Directed by longtime Clint Eastwood producer Robert Lorenz, “The Marksman” stars Neeson as an Arizona rancher who becomes the unlikely defender of a Mexican boy pursued by cartel assassins. It ticks all the boxes for the Neeson brand: a lone wolf-turned-vigilante in pursuit of justice. Neeson opened “Honest Thief” in October with $4....

The film spent its first two weeks in only four New York/Los Angeles theaters and showed the best limited performer since “1917” in 2019. “Lingua Franca” illustrates the woefully untapped potential of marginalized storytellers. Though the film is not autobiographical, Sandoval is herself a trans Filpina immigrant. She can take creative risks that would feel unnerving coming from a creator even one circle outside of Olivia’s intersecting identities, and she does. And while Olivia’s choices ensure the film’s conclusion isn’t a joyous one, she remains fully autonomous. The film opens and closes with long distance phone calls with Olivia’s mother in Tagalog, and a familiar blend of annoyance and care as Olivia promises to send her mother’s allowance when she can....

The Academy Award winner has directed one episode of the upcoming “Love, Death + Robots” Volume 3, premiering May 20 with nine new stories. Maybe it would have gone in chronological order or gone by the album track listings of any of the iconic rock albums that McCartney’s been a part of as either a band member or solo artist....
